Now a thousand words may be a little long, and I am a firm believer that some things are better left to the imagination...but sometimes the imagination needs a little nudge in the right direction. Ice cracked beneath my feet as I slowly made my way further and further from shore.
“If only I could make it around this corner” I thought to myself, as I continued to weigh the outcomes with every step.
On one hand, my shoes for the day were chacos and if I did go through the ice, they would be just fine. On the other hand, the farther I pushed the boundaries, the deeper the water would be. My camera came first for this excursion and I knew I needed to be somewhat sure of my chances.
"Just a couple more feet and I would have the perfect angle." I said to myself.
Little by little I gained the ground I wanted, listening as the ice squeaked with every inch I went. Looking down brought even more anxiety as I watched existing cracks splinter in countless directions under the weight of my steps...
“SNAP” the subtle sound of my shutter was like a thundering boom in that moment. My senses were on high alert as I took the photos I had come out for. Finally, after a couple clicks of the shutter, I turned around and made my way back to shore. Satisfied that the risk paid off and the only casualty of the day were frozen toes.
